We are extending our adoption distance to include most of PA, eastern Ohio, NY, NJ. but keep in mind that we do not ship dogs; you must come see the dog in person.

Please note: Most but not all dogs are posted on the website. We ask people to submit an application. And fill it out COMPLETELY. Tell us what you are looking for in a dog, specifically what size dog. Tell us about your house and your yard. If you have children, please tell us how old your children are. We will place puppies under 5 months old (puppy teeth) in homes with younger children.

Like many other rescue groups, MAPR is staggering under the overwhelming number of dogs being surrendered. We are not closed to intake, but we are having to schedule intake. If you need to surrender your dog, please contact us and we will work with you as best as we can. We want to help as many dogs and their people as is possible.

If you have requested an application and have not heard back, CHECK YOUR SPAM FOLDER! The applications are attachments and some seem to be going to SPAM. We are going through applications as quickly as possible. We want our dogs to go home!

A word about the puppymill/dog farm dogs: these dogs were NEVER anyone’s beloved pets. They were treated like livestock; they produced puppies for the farms where they lived. And when the farmer was finished with them, they were given away. So these are the dogs that need the most time and patience. But they come around. And they love you. Fenced yards help. Another dog in the house helps.

Things to consider BEFORE you adopt:

1) Make sure your house is ready for a dog. Put away precious breakable objects.

2) Check your fence line for any holes or broken sections from which a dog could escape. (Hopefully you have a fenced yard!)

3) Collect the necessities - baby gates, crates, food dishes, dog bed

Remember - No adult dog can be placed in a home with children under the age of 6.

There are ALWAYS dogs waiting to come in BUT WE NEED TO GET WHAT WE HAVE OUT AND INTO FOREVER HOMES.

    Ziva has been in VA with friends, waiting for a home. but so far, no one has come for her. This darling little sweetheart has been spayed and is current on all vaccines. Her adoption fee is $750. Transportation to MD is possible. Inquiries to cindy@maprescue.org

    Standard Poodle Daisy has been newly groomed. She will do well with any male dog of her size. No cats, no small dogs, probably no chickens. She will require a fenced yard. She is a real sweetheart and loves people. She turned two years old in June and has just had her first estrus cycle, so she can be spayed at any time. Adoption fee $650 with a $150 refund after spay.   • Andy - Cockapoo

    We are looking for a new foster for Andy; his previous foster adopted a dog and it was best for Andy to move on. We have a trainer set up to see him in the home. Anyone interested should be within driving distance of Baltimore-Capitol Heights.

    Fresh from his professional groom today. He is SO happy! Andy has been in a foster home since December and has done very well. He is great on lead, good with other (polite) dogs. He has been neutered, is microchipped and current on vaccines. He will do best as an only dog in a quiet house. Adoption fee $400. Inquiries to cindy@maprescue.org

  • Butch - Labradoodle

    Butch has been adopted. He waited a long time but we think he has found his place. In Rescue, we believe that there is a home for every dog; we just have to find it. Butch matured and various people helped him along the way. We wish him all the best.

    Mario is one of the TN 4. He is a sweet, happy, slightly shy boy. He is good on leash. He is pretty clean in his crate. Adoption fee is $650 with a $150 refund after neuter. Inquiries to cindy@maprescue.org

  • Willie

    Two year old Willie is available for adoption. He has been in a long term foster-to-adopt situation that is not going forward. He has been neutered, is housetrained, crate trained, walks nicely on lead and is good for grooming. He is current on all vaccines and microchipped. He is good with other dogs.

    In other words, Willie is ready for a forever home.

  • Apollo

    It is with a heavy heart that we report that our dear sweet boy, Apollo, lost his struggle with kidney failure. Apollo was a Standard Poodle - Great Pyranees cross that had been purchased for a child as a birthday gift. He was diagnosed as having been born with underdeveloped kidneys before his first birthday. The family decided to give Apollo up to Rescue because they did not want to see him die. We took very good care of Apollo. He lacked for nothing. And at the end of his life, he found a wonderful person to see him over the Bridge. A truly wonderful woman took him and gave him really good time before his huge heart gave out. Run free and well, sweet boy. Until we meet again.

  • Maybelle, sleeping at home

    Maybelle found her angel. She is doing well at this time. We are so happy for her. Such a sweet precious little dog that was dealt a bad hand. But now, she is loved and warm and happy.

    Baxter found his angel. We wish him well.

  • Barry

    We took Barry from one of the local shelters, but unbeknownst to us or the shelter, Barry was a very sick little dog. We rushed him to the vet and discovered, to our horror, that Barry was dying. We quietly and gently helped him across the Bridge. Run free and well now little man.

  • Abby

    Abby came to MAPR in the Fall of 2023, and was in foster with Cindy. She went to Heaven in June 2026. I will miss her forever and hope that she found her friends and her breeder who preceded her at the Bridge.

  • Mocha

    Mocha was a dear little dog who had a devastating health problem. We hope to see him again some day, running healthy and free at the Bridge.
